 The Hague is the seat of the Dutch government and many national and European Union institutions, as well as being the residence of the Dutch Royal Family. But its international claim of fame is as the City of Peace and Justice. The city is closely associated with the United Nations; It is the seat of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the International Criminal Court (ICC), the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). In short, it is a major international center of politics and law, reflecting the values of tolerance and openness that the Netherlands is known for. As such, The Hague is an ideal location for a Model United Nations conference. English is widely understood and it offers an interesting and safe environment for young conference participants.
